stone coffin can't keep the bones in?
« on: May 08, 2008, 08:46:00 pm »

This poor immigrant named Atis was the first to die in my present fortress, a ranger who's first order of business was to go and single-handedly take on the pack of wolves that have been chasing my other hunter and fisherdwarf all over the place. Naturally he didn't fare to well and became the first of potentially many dwarves to meet their doom as the breakfast to a pack of wolves with a named leader.

Of course it didn't sit right to just leave his corpse to rot so I had his poor mangled (but not yet rotting) corpse placed into a superior quality stone coffin, but it seems that this wasn't capable of keep poor Atis' bones from falling out and onto the ground a mere month later. I've never seen this happen before in stock .38c (or earlier versions) and while I am using reveal (to reduce slowdowns) and a few other minor edits to the raws and this is also the first time since I made those edits and starting using reveal that this has happened.

Guess I have material left over for when a dwarf goes into a Macabre mood, but this is still strange. I'm including screen-shots that clearly show he was put into the coffin and with his poor bones outside of it.

I wasn't sure where to post this so I figured bug reports would be the place since I haven't seen instances of it before.

I don't really know, something about hidden tiles taking up more cpu is what I think I heard, all I know is my fps is higher with everything revealed.

this has probably already been reported, things don't seem to stay in containers when they rot. It's a minor problem, as a helpful dwarf will come around and put the bones back in the coffin, and then they'll stay in there until again disturbed.

Back in the coffin? They're in my refuse stockpile now. Had to forbid them before they got turned into a Dwarf Skull Totem and Dwarf Bone Bolts.

E: Nevermind, after I reclaimed them some nice dwarf who wasn't fixing on making bone bolts did walk them all the way back to their coffin.

but it's a bit strange...

"Mother, I saw our dog with strange bone in its mouth!"
"Chill, it's just uncle Bert, he has rotten an hour ago and climbed out of his coffin.

I had a dwarf shed his clothes after burial.  Of course, there wasn't a whole lot left of him when he was buried, so it was just that one pig tail mitten.

Bug 432 "bones pop out of coffins"

It's amusing after a massive die-off to see your crew burying and burying and then stop burying new corpses so they can go deal with the old bones rattling forth.

I didn't see that when I went through the list of known bugs, oh well, guess this was a useless bug report.  :D

I actually have had the same problem, where if I put a corpse into a coffin it will drop some article of clothing later (probably when it changes from somebody's corpse to somebody's rotten corpse), and then when it has rotted away completely the bones pop out of the coffin and have to be replaced by some dwarf.
