I prefer to think of it as thunderdome, but musical chairs is a just as good analogy.

Many go in, only one comes out to enter the White House.

The others go on book tours for the next four years.

The Presidential Election would be a lot more interesting if the losers died, I mean then they couldn't re-run and it would root out quite a few of the idiots.

Also, the amount of votes the person gets, the better equipment they receive the fight with in THUNDERDOME.

I can't watch this.  The Republicans are doing more to support Obama's campaign than the Democrats could ever do.

It really does beg the question.  The "economy" sucks, lots of people are unemployed, no end in sight and all that stuff.  "Are you better off than you were four years ago?" is a terrible question for Obama.  A lot of Democratic voters aren't all that happy with him, even if they still like him.  The Republican party has more money to spend on campaigns than most of American history combined.

With all that on the table, 2012 should be an awesome year for an Republican who wants to run for President.  So where the fuck are all the smart Republicans who know how to answer questions, and why are these clowns all that's left to play round robin with the "polling" favorites?

They lost primary elections sometime in the past 30 years and retired from politics.

But on another note, it is possible for a president to campaign against a hostile congress and win despite the economic environment.  Look at Harry Truman.  That strategy is especially viable because the republicans haven't been pulling any punches, taking ownership of the situation.  If they say "we'd do better", people are naturally gonna want to know why they haven't been doing so for the past two years.

John Kerry?

Sorry, Bob Kerry was a senator or rep here. I always make that mistake.

None of the smart Republicans really want to inherit this mess and be responsible for it. They all want to be in positions to advise the Republican president who would, and call in favors earned during the elections. They want a sock puppet and a repeat of 2000.

I think presidential elections should be done by Tournament. A bracket of Segway or Motorcycle Jousting, a barehanded bear hunt, finished off with a nice free for all in the White House.

Edit: And of course, barring Romney's nomination, the GOP would end up with a more sane candidate then any of the current options.

Then everyone would be interested in politics, who doesn't like a good joust, bear hunt, or deathmatch?

Didn't Toady or JonathanFox once do a game based on that premise, using spaceship battles?

JF did a game about running for the presidential election by shooting things in a spaceship. But he's not allowed to release it to the public since it was made for his college as a project I believe.
