Third world created overwrote second world
« on: February 27, 2007, 04:18:00 am »

When I created a third world to do an adventure game on, DF overwrote the second world instead of putting it in a new world file/folder.

The first two worlds had active fortresses in them, and the third went on to have an adventurer (whose career ended in death, and whose world became corrupted by a crash while saving it. So I lost two worlds).

I checked the folder and there were only saves for region 1 and 2, and 2 was the broken adventurer's world. (I then deleted region 2's broken save files/folder, and made a new world to start another new fortress)

So there was a broken file and it attempted to overwrite it?  It probably couldn't lift the id number from the broken file so it assumed the #2 slot was open.

This sounds to me more like a feature than a bug.  I mean, outside of bug submissions, what's the value of leaving a broken world?  It'd be better to overwrite it when the player creates a new one and avoid wasting their hard drive space.

...hmm, on the other hand, maybe it's a shame they're not warned, since they might've been planning to submit it as a bug or try to fix it or something...
