Illyriad is a really great browser game.

You can join a B12 alliance there, StA (Slaves to Armok).

I'm on hiatus from the game until I obtain access to a laptop, which I find makes that type of game much more playable for me. I was leader for a while, but when I went on break from teh game I established a council of people in charge. They'll be able to supply you with resources to enable you to build up much faster than doing it yourself.

Also I spent a bit of money on prestige points and shared it with the alliance. These will allow you to instantly complete buildings that you queued up with your resources. Use it once your build times are over a day and it will take a lot of building time.

Keep in mind that warmongering in Illyriad tends to give other people a reason to use their armies against you, so diplomacy is of the utmost importance. There are 'diplomacy' units like scouts, thieves, spies assasins and saboteurs that, if used in large enough numbers and in a careful manner can perform secret actions against other players. I also mean diplomacy in the traditional sense of speaking to other players but the game tends to refer to the previously mentioned units as 'diplomats' as they are produced in a consulate building.

The community is very new player friendly and will send you 'care-a-vans' full of resources as older accounts will produce more basic resources than they can use, and there is a storage cap that when reached means whatever would be produced goes to waste. Military action by established players on new players is something the community takes very seriously and is usually treated as a viable casus belli for retribution by other established players to loot the aggressor. Most wars are alliance vs alliance. Alliances can form Confederations and when these go to war the casualties are immense. If I remember correctly something like 16 billion units died in one of the large wars. For perspective my cities had around 40,000 troops in each.

It has a great marketplace system too, and a nice UI. There are trader alliances and stuff.

Oh, one of the game rules is that you are able to have two accounts, but no more than two. Each account has to be played as an independant account, IE you can't use one account to supply another with resources. It's a bit murky, you can trade amongst the accounts but one can't be for supporting the other. They can be in the same alliance two different alliances, they can support each other militarily, but one accounts resources can't be primarily for the other. Small trades within reason likely will not get you banned. There are 4 races and it's probably a good idea to choose different for your two accounts unless you really like one of them. I recommend having the two accounts as it gives you more stuff to do, as well as basically doubling your own personal economic, diplomatic and militaristic power.

I will again champion Starlords 3k. 100% free, can't use real money for anything. Early in development but pretty well established. You can see our thread on it here http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=134379.0

Small community but everyone helps and the dev is super active.

On a technicality, battlemaster.org for browser 'strategy'.

It is when you become Marshal or General of a realm's army.  Mind you though, it also means you should log in shortly after turn change to issue orders...

It is a social browser game.  As in, you need to talk to be noticed and then you need to speak to the appropriate people for the chance to become Marshal.  Or get voted/appointed as General.

In some realms, Generals lead the army(armies), other realms, they take the backseat while the Marshals do it.  It really depends.
