[33g] Can I has a large ?
« on: January 05, 2008, 07:39:00 am »

This item was just brought to my trade depot by the humans. Its description is "This is a large ."

If it helps, the item was located just above iron anvils in the trade screen.

I'd rather have the medium with a side order of narrow. It comes as a combo.

I've never seen this error yet. Any clue what triggers it? or is it all serendipity?

It's got to be this:

"Large, a slang term for one thousand dollars"

Perhaps the humans are paying protection money to your dwarves?

I did a search in the reported buglist for "large" and this didn't turn up.

If its a large gem though, its well worth it for 20. On the other hand, will having a large_ kill something in the game?

I requested a random selection of gems last time the human caravan arrived. I would hazard a guess that this is one of the gems, minus its actual name.

It might be some sort of clothing.  Pity dwarves can't wear human clothes, otherwise you'd end up with some poor dwarf putting it on and getting a severe case of the Emperor's new clothes.

"Hey, look!  I'm wearing ____!"  "We can see that."

It's like Bug 666.  I'll tie them together.

A spectacular case of this occurred when I installed the 3D version of DF into the directory of the 2D version without deleting it first. Some ground tiles didn't know what kind they were, continuously rainbow flashing through every material (including "_ meat" and "bronze colossus leather bars"). When I tried to dig it out I was rewarded with a stone of "_" weighing nothing. My farmers planted a few hematite seeds I gathered outside, and then the game crashed. Granted, this was a simple I/O Error (idiot operator), but the "large _" makes perfect sense if this is what happened.

That gave me a good laugh, thanks.   :)

I had something similar happen when I simply overwrote some of the older 3D versions with the new one.  Wizards, lizardmen, and some other race were suddenly playable, and when I started out as a wizard the ground was very, very rapidly changing to random squares, and each square was different.  I almost laughed as much as when I discovered goblin children's limbs were deadly projectiles.  It's not really a bug, though, just fun.
