Siegers not doing anything
« on: February 12, 2007, 01:04:00 pm »

Im not sure if this is a bug but its my second siege and they are not doing anything.  First siege, goblins, stood outside did nothing then left.  2nd seige, 30 gobs, 8 trolls, do not even cross the outside river.  I have 2 entrances, 1 trapped and the other regular.  I raised the bridge on the regular but the other was down.  I even unlocked all the doors and let down both bridges and they still havent crossed.  It has been all winter and I am thinking of charging them before spring.  I thought trolls were supposed to bash through doors?  Is it a pathfinding problem?
Also, I cant build bridges during a siege.  Always cancels the job no matter what.  Dont know if this is a bug, if not it should be mentioned somewhere.

If you have "Dwarves stay indoors" set of course they'll cancel outside jobs--and that includes picking up the stone to build the bridge.

Ok.  What about the siegers?  I played it and they left again.  Has that happened to anyone?
Arent they supposed to enter your fort?  Do I have to fight them outside?

They're supposed to.  I'm not entirely sure.  With my steam defence running they are very wary and eventually try to tough it out (all but about 4 die, who all leave).
With it not running they all died to the traps in the main entrance.

Did you forbid a bunch of doors?  Usually having their path deeper into the fortress blocked by such means will cause the goblins to stall where they are.  Eventually they'll give up and go home.

EDIT: Whoops, I see that you didn't.  Could still be pathfinding with the bridge, but if it affects the goblins I'd think it would affect your dwarves as well.

Yeah, mystery to me.  Its my first time sieged.  Has this not happened to anyone?  Next time I think i will let one dwarf out to see if they follow.  I had animals in the hallway waiting to be shot but no go.  Does the cave river flooding have something to do with it maybe??

Happened with me this past siege.  Which is odd, as I did what I usually do - Have my runties hide away in the bowels of their fortress.  Ended up having to send someone out to lure them in.

"HEY GOBBOS! Your mother was a HAMSTER and your father smelt of elderberries. Now go away or I shall taunt you a second time."

Ok, that worked.  I sent out a scout and they all followed him in, but only as far as the river and only one group at a time.

I had this happen one time after generating pathing errors using catapults to bust holes in the ice on a glacier map. After trying to bust into my fort, the goblins retreated only to not be able to leave the edge of the map due to the water. Because of this, they just went to a spot a short distance outside the fort and sat there for a few seasons until I sent some dwarves to kill them.
