33g Aventurine deposit has no repeat discovery warnings.
« on: January 02, 2008, 10:59:00 pm »

So i started a new fortress. Chalk under sand terrain.

3 levels down i hit a cluster of green adventurines. Cool! I designated a big complex of rooms to excavate and went to turn on some music.

Well when i got back my dwarves had found and dug out 2 more clusters of adventurines. Fortunatly none of them were wasted but i didnt get a pause and announcement.

Something must be wrong here. If i get a warning about goddam alunite every single time, i should get a warning about adventurine clusters found at least half a screen apart.

You get notified once per mineral per level.

Alunite (and other colored stones) trigger EVERY time, same level or otherwise.

Are you sure? It really triggers one time per level for me.... Believe me, my fortress is made of alunite...

I'm 90% positive as I watched a miner strike alunite, then later the same miner in the same shaft struck alunite again.
Only 90% sure because this was two weeks ago.

Im 100% sure about bauxite at least. On a previous fortress I was carving out a large set of exploratory tunnels and my miners struck 5 seperate (mostly round) deposits of bauxite. I got a warning every time.

In fact the only odd thing is that this only happens with adventurine, ive never had problems with any other mineral or crystal.

The only thing I can think of is that the clusters were somehow counted as the same cluster, because the closest thing to this I've seen is when I hit a vein of ore with a 180 degree bend in it and then not getting a message when I hit another part of the vein.

Upon further testing, it seems that I was wrong. It does seem to be once per mineral cluster, so that if even one corner of a cluster has been exposed, it will not notify you when you encounter that same cluster again, even from a completely different side. If you have never exposed any of a particular cluster, you should be notified.

My guess would be that it is the same cluster, too.
