Author Topic: Wagon Surrounded by Hippos, Carp, Aligator, Hippos, and MOre Hippos...  (Read 1411 times)

I just embarked on a small spit of land where a river wraps around, and I have 7 hippos to the west, an aligator and carp near my wagon, 7 hippos to the east, and 7 more hippos to the north, all within 50 paces.  This all before I even get a chance to unpause.  What do I do?

The Hippos won't bother you, they tend to be friendly. Y'know, besides the job cancellations. The alligator may actually be scared away by the hippos, they tend to be rather cowardly when up against a zerg rush of other creatures. Carp got nerfed, and went from

Build an aboveground city sub-par camp and survive as long as possible.

Well it seems I somehow embarked without a pick as well...
Build an aboveground city sub-par camp and survive as long as possible.

Just got started on it.  I'm going to make a wooden fort like the taverns from Adventure Mode.  Since you can't build beds outside, I think I need a water mist generate to keep the dwarves' minds off their sorry bedless plight.  Luckily I packed 2 pieces of "emergency granite".  I can use that to make two mechanisms, which will allow me to make two pumps to lift water high enough to fall on their heads.  I can build windmills to power the pumps without additional mechanisms.

You need to build beds "inside" which translate to "something solid over their head." You can build it under a wooden roof just fine.

Oh, I didn't know that.  Makes things simpler.  I think I'm still going to build the waterfall generator too.  In order to drain it, since I can't dig channels for plumbing, I'll just build the fort over the river, with wooden floors and grates.  Instead of hiding from the hippos I'm going to build the fort on their heads.  Lemons and lemonade.

At least this is NOT an evil biome. You would die in seconds  :D .

Note that Hippos & Alligators are naturally afraid of dwarves, and vice versa. They do not have a prone to rage tag, you're quite safe here.

If you DID embark without a pick AND any axe. Last chance is to deconstruct your wagon, build a carpenter's workshop and craft a wooden training axe and chop some wood!

To be safe, designate the river as a restricted area. You know, to be sure...
