My save is gone
« on: October 06, 2011, 08:48:04 am »

Not really sure where to post this so putting it here. I loaded up dwarf fortress today and instead of continue game there is only start new game. My old region is still in the save folder but for some reason dwarf fortress isn't recognising it. Any idea why this is happening?

Could you have accidentally hit "abandon fortress" instead of save?

The fact that you have a "new game" option means it is recognizing your world, at least, otherwise you'd only have the option to do world generation.

The start game is a different world, it completely fails to recognise the region. It's not a huge deal because I was able to just copy the old save, rename it and paste it in and then play off that but now I have continue and start new game options using different regions. Which is weird.

This is totally intended - because each region is persistent, there can always only be one active fortress or adventurer game in each region. Only after a fort is destroyed/abandoned or the adventurer dies can a new game be launched in the same region. But you can have as many active games in different regions as you like.
