It's a skill like any other, towards the bottom. There are books for it, too.

I wouldn't say ranged is an absolute must, but the less/weaker ranged capability you have the more movement ability you need. I think sword n board is one of the hardest classes to play though because they've got next to no crowd control. So far my best strategy is to go either two handed or ranged (or both), and either way put in the points for the decoy. Basically any combination that gives you crowd control and a strong attack for use on bosses/tough enemies. Cross putting points into different resources (stamina, mana, ire, etc) is also pretty effective, as it essentially doubles your reserves and gives you more options. Combat blinking scrolls are also dead useful.

Haha, oh wow. Yeah, im quite curious about the "masters program" myself. I assume it opens up after you beat the game, or maybe after a character unlocks all skills or something.

There's three masters programs.  I know one is Grimdark Darkmans and that its unlockedvia fighter and necro trees but I don't know what in particular.  Once unlocked any mans can use the tree starting at level nine.

though I think if he keeps adding content it could get a lot better.

Agreed, it needs end game content of some kind. Persistent rewards on death are really cool, but also implies more game "tiers"..

Also I think I've got your Virulent Mana-scarred Conquering Cosmic Foomleaf Heartseeker +7 beat.

Code: [Select]
Hyperborean Hellified Coldbliterating Dungeon Missile +3

+4d4 physical damage
+4 Stremf
+2d6 cold damage
+2d6 fire damage
+5% fire damage
+5% cold damage
+2d8 cold damage

Nice bow man, here was mine :

But then :

It's good but I'mr eally just here for the deeps, son.  The Dee em gees.

The damage.

I'm now beginning to wonder where the high level loot is though >;o  I have seen three pieces of set piece gear, all from the same set.  I've seen one legendary item.  My guy is wearing the same T3 plate he bought at a store for less than 1g when I first started and he's ready to start clearing the final dungeon.

Are loot tables based on difficulty rather than actual level?  Because Conquest was trivial and dropped like copper longswords and stuff, whereas since enemies have sort of stopped leveling up but dungeons haven't I'm currently clearing Legendary dungeons like they're nothing.  Those drop normal gear.

But still nothing past t3 armor and t4 weapons.  I have literally never seen a t4 armor.

... isn't the item data just plain text or somethin'? Might go check and see if there actually is any t4 armor and whatnot.

Just checked, there is not.  there are also only two armor sets.  I'm kind of confused, the store page seems to suggest it's both fully released and still in early access, and a lot of features still seem oddly implemented or missing.

Overall I kind of feel like the game isn't completely finished.

I have the same feeling. One of the reasons I bought it was the 80+ hours steam reviewers had spent on it, I guess that makes sense if you really play it as a roguelike and don't use the academy at all but ignoring cool features to add replay value is not exactly my style. I barely played more than 15 hours and feel I've seen everything it has to offer (yet)..

There's still more to come in the form of a free content update
(scary he didn't use plural), I hope it's massive and not 1 sword and 2 pair of boots.

The content's a bit repetitive.  The basic dungeons are fine since dungeons are a pretty generic thing and we're accustomed to it (and the various situations means it's not as repetitive) but the special dungeons you start seeing in the mid-late game I dunno.  I don't know why I would enjoy doing the temple twice.

The game really needs an extended endgame right now with serious challenges for serious mens.  Enemies stop getting significantly stronger around level 10, the last time I felt any sense of danger was in the first graveyard dungeon I did and once I got on the ball with that it was a pushover too (and contained so many t4 artifacts that my next character will be even easier).

The legendary dungeons surrounding the final zone are basically loot funhouses except I don't need any more loot because the stuff I have is some of the best stuff it's possible to have.

I know that most roguelikes tend toward this kind of difficulty curve, where you hit a point in the late game where you have so many tools at your disposal that even the most outrageous situations the game throws at you can be overcome without much trouble, but it seems  excessive in this game  I've already cleared one zone of the final dungeon and it was basically autopilot.  The game overall has a more Crawl/Angband feel but the combat''s starting ot feel like Nethack where 90% of enemies literally can't hurt me.

Im still having fun with the game, but I agree with the criticisms mentioned so far.

If he doesnt add a shit ton more content hopefully its open/will be opened to modding, as I can definitely see it being fleshed out through mods alone at this point. thats not exactly the ideal scenario, but it would be better than nothing I suppose.

I'm not sure what the conditions are for it to happen, but they don't come back to life. they show up as ghosts. these ghosts show up in small square rooms attached to the library (at least so far that's all I've seen. there might be other places they can spawn). I've only had it happen with two of my more powerful characters that died more or less because the Random Number God hates me. It might be that they have to have a certain level and a complete skill set, or something like that. They can then teach you one complete skillset, but its the same one every time for that ghost. The two I have teach cartography and the archer set with the poison arrows.
