What to do with skeletons?
« on: October 02, 2011, 12:35:32 am »

Since I usually pasture my animals outside they often fall victim to sieges. Once they're over, the still fresh corpses get butchered while the rest is taken to a refuse stockpile to rot.
Now my refuse pile starts to get cluttered with skeletons of different animals. What can I do with those?
In earlier versions the butcher grabbed those skeletons by himself to make bones out of them, but that doesn't seem to be true in the current version.
Are those skeletons still useful or is there some way to take them apart? Or will my drawbridge dump finally see some work?

This is a masterfully derailed thread. It depicts Necro in magma-silk thread. This relates to the great derailing of the Divorce Thread in 2011. Necro is holding up a pig-tail fiber sock. Necro is swimming. Necro is striking a defiant pose.

Tame animals cannot be butchered if they died from natural causes (hunger, old age, goblins...). They have to be slaughtered (and so must be alive)

put them outside, when outside bodies rot and decompose into bones and skull.

I've never seen a dead animal decompose into a separate skull and partial skeleton, unless the body was decapitated to begin with.  Dead tame animals (whole) will decompose into dead animal skeletons, at which point they can only be atom-smashed.  Only if pieces were removed from the animal before death can you get bones/skulls after the rotting.

Place a single tile wide refuse stockpile lining the entrance to your fort. Send those stinky elves a message:D
