Minecraft: Dwarf Fortress Planning Mod
« on: September 28, 2011, 08:25:50 pm »

Has anyone else picked up Minecraft solely to plan out fortresses and megaprojects?  It's a whole lot easier than using that Lego builder thing, thats for sure!

Can you move diagonally through blocks in minecraft?

Also minecraft has physical limitations, such as having a range to place blocks and having to worry about the player body.

Unless you play with creative mode where you can fly and generally have godlike freedom when it comes to making stuff.

If you assume that each block in Dwarf Fortress is 3x3x3 in Minecraft and each floor is 3x3x1, you can do this (just leave out the 3 blocks on the corner that you want to go through diagonally), but things like doors and stairs end up looking weird.

No, you cannot walk through blocks diagonally in Minecraft.

As mentioned, in Creative mode you can fly and move pretty much anywhere you want, which 'mostly' circumvents the diagonal problem.  I've found it to be VERY useful for designing outdoor buildings and other megaprojects.

For me personally, I simply use a 1 block per 1 tile scale...why change it?  Sure, the guy you're running around with in Minecraft can't go through a 1 block high opening, but YOU know that.  It sure beats trying to plan and build it in DF with dwarf labor
