Play to write
« on: October 17, 2011, 02:44:22 pm »

Ok, I'm writing a story and I've got myself stuck making the world (got race rars(I write rars to describe things appearently, thanks DF), some places, the sky, some ancient lore, and around 3-5 disconnected entities) this would be nice if it was a forum game but not helpful for a story, so I'm going to throw out some invitations for parts to be played until I'm happy and throw up some more parts... like plays in a theater.

So first I should describe ancient creation and ask for some precursors...

Now to play, who wants a character?

For millions of years the world was dominated by a race of shape-shifters with godlike powers over the physical, but the nature of this power made their lives to short to develop mentally beyond the toddler stage, and being god-tyrants having to lead wars since birth also left them quite insane.

"Yes Johnfalcon you may."
*newspapers Armok* "Not you write, me write."

Ok, planet is called Terror (mostly so I could get away with saying terrain in the story) has two moons Heart (a red globular in the closer orbit that much more noticable tides) and Hero (a silvery spheroid in a semi-eliptical orbit) orbiting a (unnamed) star class A with a slew of other planets, at this time is currently junglely and wild.

I didn't write, I described, and in a highly compressed way. *Writing* that would mean showing it not telling it and would take a page or two. If that was not what you meant we should do you should have expressed yourself more clearly.

Not entirely sure what I should be doing. You didn't explain it very well at all in the intro post.

Its a forum game armok you get a character and play that, no describing strange stuff, that I cant understand.

Your in a jungle Johnfalcon you can do stuff, probably more than you'd think.

I think he's looking for basic stuff, like who he is, what he has, if anyone is with him, why he is in the jungle, ect. Do you want him to just make that stuff up as he goes along? Also, what age is it? Carrying a machine gun only makes sense in certain ages.

...

You know, I want out now. Sorry, but to be honest, this is kinda stupid. I am in the middle of Jungle, with no pretext of how I got there, or what I should be doing. Chances are, I would get bored real fast because I have absolutely no purpose or idea of whats happening other then "Yer in jungle lol". I am sorry, but this is a kinda bad way to make some kind of Forum Game. You don't even explain it very well in the openning post. I didn't even under what was going on in the Lore post.

Once again, I am sorry, but this doesn't seem like something I want to be a part of.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You can have out if you want, its just story building, so I dont have to make some random stuff up.

So basically you're looking for assistance in creating world backstory for your story? Sounds like it could be fun. The question is, do we play it like a forum game where we tell you what we want to do, and then wait to see if it's successful, or do we just assume auto-success at most things unless you explicitly nix it?

Okay, I guess I'll take over. My name'll be Gintara, and I'll be an ancient turtle humanoid with a cane and white beard. I'm here waiting for the other ancients, at the place where we first entered this world. I guess this leaves room for others to join, and sets up a general thing. The ancients aren't supposed to be deities, just very powerful figures. Hope you like the addition.

The question is, do we play it like a forum game where we tell you what we want to do, and then wait to see if it's successful, or do we just assume auto-success at most things unless you explicitly nix it?

For this part actions will be mostly auto-success until I decide I don't like what going on(bad forum and internet behavior) or don't think the result will fit with the story(like destroying the planet, moons, sun/rendering it unlivable) or a GM is needed to resolve a difference of opinion or large action(any actions involving more then one character or large portions of the planet/space/stuff).

As for setting I leave it basic(jungles, oceans, mountains)(random stuff) because I've worked out like 2% of the stuff to begin with and I don't feel quite like going down the list of animal-nich-creature-data path of insanity and never going to finish happily junk.  But if your going to make up something new like a plant or animal please describe it in the first post you make with it(spoilered in you want(I'll probably find it faster)) and if your going to include real plants animals ect. I'm going to assume that the connective parts of it's nich are there as well (food+predators), otherwise you can make the setting up.

In short if it lives I'll watch it but, you'll probably see more players infighting over disliked actions of "those" players then me telling you whats behind door B.
