Gods/Goddesses that aren't the same race as the worshiping race?
« on: September 17, 2011, 10:25:30 pm »

For a race called trolls in my mod: (do I have to say that every time?)

"Sverja Washedswims was a deity that occurs in the myths of The Ruthlessness of Celebration. Sverja was most often depicted as a female duck and was associated with lakes and coasts."

(Note: the only reason I know it's from the trolls is because the Ruthlessness is a troll race and that Sverja is a troll name)

She's listed as "Sverja Innarrillafn, 'Sverja Washedswims', duck goddess"

Is it just something to do with the troll's being somewhat enamored with water? If so, that's really cool and I love this game so much

I want your mod, right now.

In other news, yes. It's possible. I once had a purring maggot as a dwarven god of disease.

Purring maggots? Clearly, they are the biggest plague to dwarfkind.

Also, if you want the mod, it's in the sig.

Put it in a separate folder, it kind of replaces a lot.

My Dracon have been seen worshipping fire snakes and toads.

And yea that's the jist of it, seems to be a chance of gods of certain spheres being viewed as some kind of animal from what seems to be a hardcoded list.  Gods of stuff like disease and death can sometimes show up as skeletal too.

Not quite. What it does is associates a few biomes with certain spheres. For instance, fire, magma, volcanos, forges, etc. all draw from creatures in your raws with the [SUBTERRANEAN_MAGMA] biome. Similarly, lakes and coasts would draw from creatures who have the associated biomes.

That means if you have custom creatures running around in your world, you'll occasionally see a deity depicted as one.

I had unmodded dwarves worshiping a fire imp. He was the god of fire love and volcanos so it seemed appropriate.
