Save a Dwarf
« on: September 17, 2011, 12:32:32 am »

I am trying to generate a medium-region sized map with the seed 1762573885. I can not get Dwarven civilizations to spawn or they may be getting wiped out, though I tried to gen them multiple times. If someone can gen me a world with that seed and have at least one active Dwarven civ, then we all could finally enjoy such a monumental mountainhome. Bring a world save back here pronto!  8)

Currently generating a world with this seed - it looks like fun! There's a purple tundra next to yellow mountains, awesome.
And there is one solitary mountain halls in the very northeast corner of the world... still there after several hundred years of worldgen.

Here's a zipped folder.
Notes:
- There is exactly one Dwarven civilization left, The Savage Ramparts. It is pretty small, and confined to (as far as I can tell) a single moutainhome in the far northeast. The rest is dwarf-free.
- I use some minor modding to: Make elves send diplomats to yell at you for cutting down too many trees, make kobolds survive worldgen, and make weapons and armor cost more metal like they did before DF2010. The world was genned with this active; hope you don't mind.

[PLAYABLE_CIVILIZATION_REQUIRED:1]

Strangely enough, that did not affect the outcome. I had it from the start.

Here's a zipped folder.

Thank you very much!

EDIT: Aaakchually... the world was not the same as I genned it. The seed alone may not have done it. If it is not too much of a bother, could someone gen the world with this world_gen:

To clarify:
Are you using .25?
Do you have any edits in your raws?

Oh, you should also use a shorter history. Civs die out too easily in1050.

I suggest going into your creature_standard RAW file, and add [NO_EAT] and [NO_DRINK] to the dwarf entry.  However, be warned that this will cause the opposite problem (dwarf civilizations get very big), so history should still be kept fairly short.  You should also take those tags out of your save's RAW file when you start playing.

If you still can't get the dwarves to spawn, then try upping the starting civilization count.

Giving [NO_EAT] to dwarves sometimes gives weird effects. I got a world where dwarven territory spreads over 3/4 of the map. And the goblin civ got wiped out...

First gen has 6 human and 5 elf civs remaining. No dwarves. The hell?

Has anyone tried genning with the parameters I gave? The only Dwarves that spawn are in mountains at the top by the giant evil tundra, but they don't survive world gen and I can still play fortress mode though. You'll know you have the right map at least when you see a giant good mountain range snaking up the center of the map from the very bottom. It'll have about 10 mountain peaks clustered together near the middle of the map. This map is too lovely to give up, everyone will benefit! Except the Elves.

Did you use the params I set? Check the Legends as I am sure there were Dwarves. In my current world, there has only ever been one Dwarf civ spawned and they were at the top of the map in the evil tundra. All 10 of them starved to death by year 4. I really don't want to alter the Dwarves to not eat, I'd rather have a natural DF gen for all these civs. I'm wondering why no other Dwarves spawn. If someone gens my world you'll notice right away the massive golden mountains of joy shooting up the map. I checked the savagery noise map and it does cover a lot of the mountain, though there seems to be places Dwarves could spawn.

Ha, it turns out that those Dwarves were visited by a bronze colossus in the year 3. Only two Dwarves scuffled with it, one died and the other got away.
