Obsidianizing the tubes! (magma issues! need help!) [Spoilers]
« on: September 14, 2011, 11:06:48 am »

I'm currently in the process of extracting as much adamantine as possile, using an underground waterstorage to create obsidian walls around the adamantine tubes extending down into the magma sea.
This works fine for several layers, but at a certain point, water just starts falling trough the magma without creating obsidian walls.

The tiles that are problematic are marked as "magma flow", and no matter how much water I flood the area with, nothing happens!

Is there any known way of removing the "magma flow" tag from a magma tile?

(this is not caused by temperature being off, I checked!)

i belive the only surefire way for those tiles is an extensive pump operation and then building walls. cave ins and water dropped from above wont do anything to whats classed as the bottom of the magma sea.

Technically magma flows aren't considered actual magma, iirc. I think it's like the magma equivalent of a brook tile, which dwarves can also walk on.

That gives me an idea, actually. Dwarves sometimes attempt to fish in magma, so what if one were to actually mod in magma-dwelling creatures that can actually be caught?

That didn't last long, huh? Shame, cause binary's cool. Anyway, an important message: I will be changing my names on every username based thing I use to ASCIt on/around 10/1. Consolidating, I guess you could say.

The magma flow isn't your problem, your problem is the semi-molten rock directly below it.

http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/DF2010:Semi-molten_rock

It will destroy absolutely anything dropped onto it. If you've hit it, that's as far down as you will be able to cast your caissons. The only way further down is through the center of an adamantium vein, or a HFS temple.
