Immigrants and population cap (version c)
« on: March 04, 2008, 09:45:00 am »

I recently made a fort and limited the population to 15, as my FPS on my brand new computer drop down to ~15 in a medium sized fort (weather off, gfps low, no pets, no background programs)

Anyway, all immigration ceased at total population 12, and hasn't increased since.  Even after a death, the population hasn't increased. It's been 9 years since an immigration, and I've since raised the pop cap to 80 to try and get seiges.

The FPS is still dropping off steadily, even without getting any new migrants as well. I tend to lose about 5 fps per year, sitting at 55fps right now.

It's very disheartening, as I wish I could have this speed with a full fort, but still, some more haulers would be nice too  :)

Did you lower your baby cap?  There was a bug where that affects the pop cap.

Yes I did!
I'll return it to the default and see if that helps.

Thank you very much.

About the framerate:
Could it be the number of pets increasing, or the amount of stone or other items?

Upon second checking, I did have far too many items, 10000 units of booze, 10000 units of cooked food, and about 75 captured gobbos
Not to mention over 3000 stone, 1000 lumber...... and a few million other items

All the gobs were in the same cage, but I suppose the sheer volume of junk laying around could be lagging it

I have since made a new world, fixed the baby cap (which fixed the no immigration) and I'm keeping the stuff to a minimum.

I can't seem to get dumping zones to work, so I'll have to find some other way to get rid of excess items though.

Similar sort of concern here, so I figured I would post in the same thread.  I've set my max pop to 1, and yet I'm still getting new migrants.

code:

[POPULATION_CAP:1]
[BABY_CHILD_CAP:100:1000]

Ideally I want all my dwarves to be able to be descended from my seven original dwarves.  I'm not sure if this is possible, but I figured to try it out.

EDIT:
Odd note.  I've started two forts to try and do this (in 38a and 38c) and in both cases the first migrant wave brough my pop to 9.  Probably just fluke, though.
