Hunter stuck!
« on: November 29, 2007, 05:16:00 pm »

Started a new game. I have a hunter who was carrying a catch toward my cave when he met a kobold and seemingly started to fight. Well, the fight went on and on, and now he's about to die of thirst. He's been getting more and more experience all the time, is not getting any wounds, and is standing in the same square with an *unconscious* kobold!

I don't want to know what he was doing with the poor, unconscious kobold when he got stuck!

Is there a way to make my hunter walk a few squares toward a lake and save him? I think it's a bug that this is possible..

He's probably pinching the kobold repeatedly or something.  Do you have a save?  The fight should have turned lethal at some point, though perhaps it has to do with the new problem where they ignore unconscious opponents.

Send a soldier to finish the kobold and your hunter will be free to return and drink.

I had a marksdwarf and a zombie groundhog go toe to toe in a fight that seemed like it would never end. Eventually I drafted my woodcutter to go finish it off.

I don't have a soldier. How can I tell a dwarf to go smite that exact kobold?

Press "v", select any dwarf. Press "p", then press "a" to activate him into the military. Press space to get out of the menus, press "x" scroll to your kobold problem and press "s". You can deactivate your dwarf, or you can keep him as a soldier afterwards. If you want to keep him as a soldier, I'd suggest going into the military menu (m) and going into his squad menu (v) and making him off-duty when you don't need him.

That worked, and the poor hunter had time to reach the beer barrels too =). Thanks for the tip! Although, of course, now it feels obvious..

On the bright side, your hunter got loads of free experience and seems none the worse for the wear.

Okay, I've downloaded the save and will take a look at it at some point.

For whatever reason your dwarf wasn't even attacking, but there was an odd bug where the kobold's busted arm made it blind and otherwise broken down, so it could never hit.  Once I fixed that, it broke the dwarf's hip, but the dwarf managed to crawl away, and when the kobold pursued, the dwarf wacked the kobold very hard and it sailed six squares and died.  So the situation resolves itself now, anyway.  But I'm still going to look at why the dwarf wasn't attacking in the first place.

edit: Now that's fixed too.  Same square attacks had a targeting problem in the AI.
