[4oD14] dwarves randomly find somthing and throw me away

Many times after I have almots got my fort running and I have my miners on the final expansions, it gives me an announcment saying "you have struck (insert rock here)" and it throws me out of the map to a random part of the world. game breaking as I can never get back to my dwarves afterwards

Throws you out of the map?  Are you sure it's not just recentering on the dig site?

press u. then press down until you get to a farmer/whatever. then press c.

It sounds like you're not familiar with how to move the view across z-levels (changing the elevation you're looking at), maybe. Use < and > to change z-levels.

No, I mean I'm getting my dwarves to dig out a mine(no Z level change) and out of the blue a notice comes saying my miners have struck something and it takes me out to a different part of the world.

What do you mean by "different part of the world"? What do you see immediately after you get the message? What were you doing immediately before you got the message?

The "Auto-Zoom!" is annoying in many cases, I agree.

To alleviate the problem, you can set hotkeys
F1 returns to the wagon site, you can use and set F1-F10

The process is a bit wonky though, you have to press h, then z, then hit the function key you want to bind, all while over the spot you wish to return the view to.

also it pauses when that happens. press space to resume the game.
i agree it's really annoying, and i wish we could get rid of it.

Just realised, it happened when I was digging channels...it was a z-level change...

I think he realizes that now.  Anyway, Supercharazad, since the problem is solved, if you want you can edit the original post to change the thread title to "Solved" or something, and lock the thread with the controls in the lower left.
