« on: September 07, 2011, 08:01:46 am »

I tried making magma forges today and couldn't do it, i channelled underneath before building the forges, E.g.

 [---]   = forge space
    v     = channel
~~~~  = magma
this is how i have it set up at the moment but cant build on top of the channel, iv also tried channelling while the forge was built up, any help?
thanks
Magma forges only need to have a single tile devoted to supporting the whole thing, which is the center block.
What I usually do is channel out the top in a big magma line and then place the forge on that.
MMMMMMMMMM        MMMXXXMMM
FFFFFFFFFFFFFF         FFF  XXX FFF
FFFFFFFFFFFFFF         FFF  XXX FFF
F=Floor
M= Magma
X= Forge
A magma forge (or smelter, etc. etc.) needs to be built over at least one open space with 4/7 magma.
Preferably you then put one of the inaccessible squares of the forge over the channeled space to keep out unwanted visitors from below.
For a magma forge the inaccessible squares are the left and right middle squares.  For the kiln, glass works, smelters, etc. it is generally the top middle square.
