[38b] "Duplication" of artifact in bin
« on: March 03, 2008, 09:49:00 am »

So this is pretty weird. Having infiltrated a previous fortress (antmen and troglodytes - what a joke!) I've found the artifact steel spear Anur Tinan.

However, the spear is clearly haunted by the artisan who crafted it because it doesn't seem to want to leave the bin I found it in... Or something. Even though I've picked it up and equipped it, when I look in the bin it still says that Atur Tinan is in there.
Repeated attempts to pick it up result in a single spear ending up in my backpack (and out of my hand) while that "ghost" spear stays in the bin.

Saved the game and backed up the save, can zip and send on demand. To Toady, that is. No, I will not supply you with a bottomless bin o' spears.

Actually, it happens with all artifacts. I just sold an artifact towercap amulet to a shopkeeper without losing it.

Didn't it happen with furniture at one point too?

Have you ever Ctrl-Alt-Del'd the process to kill it without reloading from backup?  Terminating the process can do things -similar- to that...

Yeah, I'd like to take a look at it if there's something I can do with an artifact right after I load.

I ran into this bug myself, or so i would assume, and did a little testing on it.

I abandoned a fort and went to collect a mace type weapon and a whip from it, that had been created, that was simple enough.

The weapon was in a makeshift forge, as well as an artifact earring being in a nearby craft shop, pick the mace type weapon up and the earring, equip the mace, travel.

Ambushed, bash a big cat with my shield a little, go back to the fort. My abandoned weapon's by the forge still, and the mace type weapon's still in the forge. pick up the mace type weapon several times, putting it into my hand first, then my backpack. check the forge, it's there still.

assuming it had something to do with ownership, i took the weapon again, equipped it and started to leave the general area, only for the weapon to vanish out of my hands after i got a distance away from the fortress. I guess i may have traveled over a boundry line at this point, as there was a momentary pause as if it's loading the next region.

head back, pick up the weapon again, bash a few ant men/troglodytes/gremlins with it, throw it, watch it vanish as it sails away, pick it up again, throw it again, pick it up again, save and quit.

If so required, i can provide (or at least attempt to.) a copy of the region/objects folders, and whatever else may be required.

I've got the one save, and I'll take a look at that first before I grab another one.  It sounds like the same issue so I should be able to get the information from the one I've got.
