The Rage of Ves the Dragon
« on: September 07, 2011, 03:41:25 am »

Ves Palathkamde Quemerebbak is an old dragon by dwarven standards. Maybe around five hundred years old. Young for her kind. One day, she was wandering about in search of a meal when she came across Ravencrafted, a fairly new dwarven settlement. She'd caught one of the squirming things and devoured it, but wanted more, and charged for the entrance of this building full of meaty treats.

Unfortunately, she was captured by a deceptively large cage, and was shortly thereafter placed into a zoo, where dwarves threw parties constantly for their victory over her. It had been a year since her capture, watching these dwarves sing and dance and throw her taunts. Then a dwarf came and began working on her cage. Confused, she couldn't understand the dwarf when he expressed his confusion why the Overseer wanted this cage hooked up to the release lever for the prison.

A short while later, where was commotion outside, soldiers fighting with goblins that had fallen into a pit. Ves sighed, wanting to join the fray and eat pretty much anything that she could burn. From somewhere above she heard a dwarf say to throw the prison lever, so the military could train on the prisoners. There was a loud click, and then suddenly the door to Ves' cage swung open. The dragon grinned and took a step form her cage.

Payback's a bitch.

----------------------------------

Basically, I had a captures dragon and at some point in building my arena, I accidentally hooked up the dragon's cage to the lever. When I threw it, I released the dragon into my own base. I used to have a population of about 84, now it's down to 48. Nearly half my dwarves are dead because of a silly mistake.

Good Armokk I love this game.

Good entry for the "this game needs a tagline" thread.

DF sets out a challenge to us with no explanation and no assistance, and each time we fail it becomes more merciless, but we continue in the hopes that we can show it, "See?  I'm doing good, right?  I kept the little men alive!  You're proud of me, right?"

Lol yeah, I could smell eight pounds of hilarious story from this, but I was just too awstruck by my own oversight that I could only get what you see above. I don't even remember linking the dragon cage to the lever. I could've sworn I only linked 'goblin cage's. ><

You make great fun stories Spiral. Did the dragon die by the way in her vengeance?

Yeah. Went down pretty easy too, much to my disappointment. After she roasted 30-ish dwarves in one breath, and my military had finished with unarmed prisoners, they turned it around and hightailed it towards where I assumed the dragon was [smoke makes it very hard to see, did you know that?] and got ready to do whatever they could to save me. They had no shields and no armor [metal-less embark] but a couple of them had weapons I'd purchased from caravans. Bismuth bronze hammer, bronze short sword... and a steel battle axe. The recruit with the steel weapon got there first, and pretty much Shoyruken'd Ves' head off.

You monster!

All she wanted was treats!  If dwarves weren't made to be devoured by dragons they wouldn't be bite sized.
