@Frisian : Most of those "mad Nero" sources are dubious. Tyrant probably, mad, no.

He didn't burn rome down, or fiddle while it burnt, those are both rubbish.

He did build lots of public works, built up trade, diplomacy, and oversaw successful military ventures / peace treaties.

EDIT: Also known for executing his mother, but considering his mother was Agrippina, that's kind of understandable. Better than having her poison you at some random point in time if you annoyed her ;)
