Perma Flood oh yes it can happen. (nov 26 version 33c)
« on: November 28, 2007, 08:15:00 pm »

Ok this is the story. I found a map with a brook and a waterfall. The water fell for about 12 levels into the brook below. I mined my way down to the bottom of the water fall and started building a wall right on top of the brook (i can't rember why) i made the wall 3 units high. This was no problem since the water fell into the brook and disapeard...

Then winter came, turned the brook/waterfall into ice, no problem the building proceded. Then BAM the ice melted, instantly the water filled behind the wall, three layers high, when it ran over the wall it started filling the area around it to 3 levels deep water. To see what happend i knocked a hole in the mountin that entered right next to the water fall. I have never seen water move so fast... it ran trough the hole at a amazing speed filling the area it reached with water as deep as behind the wall.

Around then i had about 3-4 fps, and i abandoned the fort. I don't have the save but i bet someone can replicate it if the find a brook, a waterfall and a area that freezes. The reason i report this is becouse it felt like there was suddenly flowing much more water then should be expected.

When ice thaws, it does so at a height of 7/7, regardless of how high the water was when it froze originally.  This is why there suddenly seemed to be so much water when the thaw occurred.

Thats how water cloning works on cold deserts. Spread to 2/3, let it freeze, voila, everything is 7.

Wouldn't it be easier to just make a self-fueled pump?

if it was just the ice so ok... that would be temporary. But the waterfall could suddenly fill the entire map with additional 3x7 water. Thats just... something wrong with that. ^^
