Dwarves refuse to pick up certain items
« on: September 02, 2011, 01:43:17 pm »

I'm not entirely sure why, but there have been several articles of clothing left outside from sieges and whatnot that my dwarves just refuse to pick up. I've forbidded, reclaimed, dumped, undumped, allowed them to pick up refuse from outside, tried it all again, and nothing seems to work. Does this mean that some of my dwarves have actually -claimed- these items of clothing as their own? What's the deal here?

Check the articles with k. Are they claimed by your dwarves? It's possible they are owned, and the owner found something better and is now wearing that instead. He still owns the discarded piece, thus why you cannot dump it. If not, then I have no idea.

Yup. They seem to be claimed. Blah.

I think if you build a container in the owner's room, they'll eventually store it, if they don't have anything better to do. Not sure of the priority, or whether they'll get to it right away if you tell them they can't do the cool stuff (like hauling) until they pick up their clothes off the floor.

Build a few cabinets in the owner's bedroom.  Make sure the item is not forbidden or marked for dumping.  Eventually, the owner should pick it up and store it in their bedroom cabinet.

Incidentally, dwarves will never actually wear clothing they claim.  They'll just claim it and put it in their bedrooms.  This appears to be a bug.

Yeah that sucks. The only ways to get rid of them are to either kill their owners,
OR

d-b-h and just Hide them from view. They'll still be there but you won't see them.

Edit: Right, forgot about giving them cabinets. Though all my dwarves have a cabinet and I still see clothes littered about. Oh well.

dfhack allows you to force dwarves to unclaim items, doesn't it?
