Nope, I finally confirmed what I saw. It's an Eastern Chipmunk. The dark corner it was scuttling in confused me as to colour and the tail, but the pattern in the fur is distinctive, and the size is right.

Ah, we have chipmunks in our house too. Though they only nest in the walls and actually do their living outside.

That's what I'm sayin'; if it's in your living space it probably doesn't want to be there--chippies are not household vermin like mice & rats; just open the door and chase it outside...

They WILL regularly make homes in your walls and basements though. It definitely means live trapping is an immensely preferable action though, since it's not going to turn into a swarm. :)

Also, RedKing, I guess its probably different where you are, then. A lot of the laws are local ones, so although live-traps are the standard for racoons in the vast majority of cases in the US, I guess I can see there being a few places that go in the other direction. Its a bit disturbing to know there are places that mandate kill traps, though.

And if anyone sees you with a dead chipmunk they will think you're evil.

You could probably just show it the door, quite literally, and it would bolt outside.

Shoot into your walls with fully-automatic firearms of questionable legality. I am certain that this will leave you without a chipmunk problem.

I cannot guarantee that this will leave you without other problems, such as the ones involving police sieges, however.

The only chipmunks I have had in my house were the halves that my cat would leave as a present under my pillow when I was young.

On mice/rats: Kill em all. Snap traps are more humane than glue or poison because they generally kill a lot quicker. But I have also had "opportunity" to shoot them with a pellet gun after I woke up one night to see a mouse chewing on my toe. Took all night to spotlight him with a flashlight away from fragile items, but I eventually got him.

Can't just show it the door, it is in my basement den.

Might have left, though. I set up a trap for it a while ago and it hasn't even taken the bait leading up to it.

Okay, so, today this girl I know-Lauren, just took a sudden dis-interest in talking to me. Is she just on her period or something?
