You sir are playing god!  Naught but ill fortune can arise from this hubris bloated venture!   Mankind was not meant to meddle with the domain of creation!

I also noticed that the initial pattern respawns after a certain amount of ticks, but I didn't get a hold on the number. Is that supposed to happen?

Edit: Timed it with a +-shaped pattern, which normally generates 4 blinkers. At t = 175 or t = 176, a new +-pattern appears in the center of the now rather confused blinkers

If only I knew what this was.

If I understood correctly, it's a cellular automaton, a mathematical "game". This one seems to obey the rules of Conway's Game of Life.

The grid is divided in cells, each of the cells being either "alive" or "dead". Then, each turn, the game switches the states of cells by the following rules:

* if a dead cell has exactly 3 live neighbors, it becomes alive
* if a live cell has 2 or 3 live neighbors, it survives - less than 2 or more than 3 will result in the cell dying

All these actions are carried out "between turns" so the order of computation doesn't matter. Oh yeah, diagonal neighbors do count - each cell can have up to 8 live neighbors.

Also that bar at the bottom is a timeline, you can place stuff in the past, go to the future, then the waves will propogate changes forwards.
