Magma smelter no longer requires magma safe materials?

Although building magma forge asked for "magma safe building material", I could build a magma smelter with chalk.
Is this an intentional change or a bug?

You're playing with temperature off.  It works fine with it on.

magma workshops don't need firesafe materials generally, just forges require a firesafe anvil
