I got really lucky and had a regular cave spider web over a few cage traps down in the caverns. 

But how does one normally get their cage traps webbed so that trap-avoid creatures can get trapped?

I believe Urist DaVinci has a good tutorial on doing that.

Basically you want to have a GCS chase a dwarf or something along a hallway filled with traps. It will web some of them, but would take many repetitions to web all of them. It's tricky to do, but worth it.

Much better outcome.  Fewer dwarves dead of thirst in a cage.



Spider's dead of old age, so is one of the dogs.  Ignore that.

First is to get a GCS.  There are tricks to this.

Second is to build a silk farm.  As long as you've got backup cage traps, you can figure it out after a couple of tries.

Third is to stop your GCS from shooting and build some cage traps in the path of its web.

Fourth, route the bad guys through.
