Ah. Good. Do steel spears work against steel FBs? Or does it need to be a better material?

Ah, well, I don't really have any steel FBs at the moment. But these spikes are the first line of defense in the caverns, and I'd like still like to know if they work against an FB of the same material.

steel spikes should work although you'd better have something better at your second line of defense.
What's fb's description? does it head any easily severable parts?

Steel spikes work, but in order to hurt or kill an FB made of rock, gemstone or metal that way, you have to get quite lucky. If those buggers come with one of the nastier special abilities (dust, blood, secretions or vapors ... ugh, does my latest fort attract the lethal-vapor beasts), drop the ceiling on them or obsidianize them.
