I'm trying to find a fort I set up from the embark map... well, actually, I'm trying to find a nearby location. This is proving to be quite difficult, because the world maps from DF mode and Adventure mode look nothing alike. Anyone got any advice on how to find my fort? Also, can anyone explain the differences to me?

Uh... if you know the name of your fort I believe you can search for it on your travel map.

I believe that is only true if you have previously seen it with that adventurer.

Edit: actually, you might be right! It's just that it uses the human name instead of the dwarf name.

Edit2: Now I just have to get there without dying. Ah well.

Next time I'd recommend exporting a copy of the map from legends mode - it can be quite useful in adventure mode.

you can ask around about surroundings.  do this with a few people in every town till someone recounts an event from your fortress.  then you are sure to have the location.

If nobody speaks of the fort, you picked the wrong civ. The fort is either in another country, or is out of recollection range. Try to build a fort close to another settlement.

1. Go to Fortress mode, select 'reclaim' option. Find your ex-fort and remember where it is.
2. Go back to Adventurer mode, locate fort with knowledge gained in step one.
3. ?
4. Profit.
