Webbed Cage Traps
« on: August 08, 2011, 08:13:08 am »

Hi all

I've read time and again that webbed cage traps are neccesary to catch anything with the [TRAPAVOID] tag. But how to you get cage traps webbed? I've tried placing them in caverns, hoping for a handy GCS to come along, but that method seems far too unreliable - I've yet to see it work.

So how do you guys get webbed cage traps?

I actually had the same discussion just now - essentially you want to set up some sort of tethered bait animal, a cage behind it and a spider.  The spider shoots webs at the animal and some of them go past the creature and onto the cage

Actually, you only need webs to catch things with both [TRAPAVOID] and [NOSTUN]. If the creature can be stunned, it can be caught in a blast of cave-in dust and knocked unconscious on a cage trap, catching it.

Can FB's be stunned at all?  I need to know for a project...

No. Hence the idea of webbed cage traps, which were originally proposed to capture forgotten beasts, and worked.

Nope, which is why the webbed cage trap is necessary. See http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=69142.0 for my research on this topic.

You need to catch yourself a GCS, keep it hostile (not tame), and use it in a "silk farm" design from the wiki to spray silk onto cage traps. You then lure the FB or Titan across that cage trap. Don't let your dwarves collect the webs or even walk across the webbed trap, as they will be caged.

To catch a GCS, put cage traps in cavern levels 1 and 2. Giant Cave Spiders are [BUILDINGDESTROYER:1], meaning that it will attempt to destroy wooden doors. Use a wood door as bait to draw GCS over a cage trap, so that you don't catch crundles or something.

Cheers, Da Vinci.  I'm planning on making my water reactor better by putting a bleeding FB over it, bleeding deadly blood into the reactor water.  I don't know how it'll improve it, but that's for !!Science!! to decide.
