The fan community actually is still making patches.. and at some point on the fan patches the game became significantly less buggy... not to say their are no bugs.. but perhaps less?

Guild 2 Renaissance was pretty interesting - I played it heavily for a few weeks but did pretty much everything there was to do, except go too far down the brigand (thief?) line because the stupid road ambushes were SO ridiculously buggy. It felt like a very large element of the game was broken.

Then the merc camps were pretty much useless - abysmal income for the amount of money it cost. Plus, if you were playing the earlier stages aggressively, the only people that needed protection needed protection from... your own bandits, since you hopefully got rid of the competition.
