Other Random Ideas
« on: July 30, 2011, 03:35:52 pm »

I've been thinkin' of putting more real-world crops like corn and wheat to add variety to their meals, as well as letting dorfs use cauldrons to cook soups and stews, ovens to cook bread and biscuits, and stoves to cook roasts and boil potatoes. So yeah. New, real crops to make -carp meat soups [17]-, *cornmeal biscuits [9]*, +boiled potatoes [35]+, and =wheat bread loaves [14]=.

While I do support the idea of new plants, that being said, I'd rather have the plant have a new feature behind it rather then just another thing of crop fodder. Something like 'This plant heals you' or 'This plant repulses vermin'. As opposed to 'potatoes, you can eat it'.

It's rather easy to mod in to. Here's the link to bread I've also modded in potatoes, wheat, and corn myself, I'd be happy to send you the raws if you want them.

potatoes and corn?-MOAR alcohol! maybe a stage-setter for mixed drinks?

because dwarves would rather make alcohol that eat the food it comes from

Cauldrons, why not if you can make something different in there. Spoons ? That's maybe too little. Objects of that type have been abstracted up until now, and I think it's a good thing. Can you imagine your fortress running decently while tracking one or two thousand spoons ?

I support cauldrons IF they are part of plan to redo the whole feeding system. Making lots of little nourishing food like soup from a cauldron would be nice, but there would need to be an actual and sensible difference between a meal and a lavish meal.

You'd only have to track a few hundred spoons, which wouldn't be a problem, after all, we sometimes track over a thousand socks.

Iv seen people who haven't had a redheaded person in their family for quite a while, and then out of nowhere two out of three of their children have red hair.
What color was the mailman's hair?

Hm, how about corn and a similar type of fungus that can be processed into a (cavern) corn cob (edible, cookable, or ?brewable) and a (cavern) corn husk (can be turned into/is cloth)? Or can that already be modded in?

You can do this, but you have to have it show up as shrubs, not like grass.
