[HELP] Modding Nerves to Heal
« on: July 26, 2011, 05:03:04 pm »

The title pretty much says it.

I already know that deleting [HAS_NERVES] from the raws gets rid of the dreaded severed nerve issue, but is there a way to make it less... cheap?

I want to figure out how to make severed nerves heal over time.

Body parts which are completely severed, as nerves often are, can never heal.  Bruised nerves can heal, but in my experience nerve injuries tend to sever them completely.

Dang. That really sucks. Well, I suppose I'll have to live with deleting [HAS_NERVES] then. Thanks for the reply.

well, according to the wiki, adding [HEALING_RATE:2000] under NERVE_TEMPLATE in the tissue_template_default file will allow spinal injuries to heal in time. adjusting the rate will affect how fast it heals.

Just to clarify, lower rates mean faster healing, with 1 being the fastest rate.  2000 is quite slow, and causes a major injury to take a year+ in my experience.  I've definitely had some nerve injuries never heal at all though, which as mentioned above is probably due to the nerve being severed.

From what I can see in the raws, the only actual "nervous tissue" is the spinal column. The motor and sensory nerves in the limbs are only tags, and are not physically represented. Their only states are severed and un-severed, and no amount of modding will heal severed nerves.

However, removing [HAS_NERVES] will prevent them from being severed in the first place. I justify it to myself by saying that if an attack severs a motor or sensory nerve IRL, you've probably damn near severed the arm as well.
