He did not resist arrest the slightest.
I guess he was smug about what he just did..

Okay. Corrections.

He was not a religious fanatic. He was acting on a right wing set of beliefs that in this case were in favour of keeping the culture of Norway Norwegian. He was reacting against a party that is in favour of immigration and multiculturalism. He is, effectively, a cultural bigot. He does not per se hate Muslims, immigration, or multiculturalism, just not in his country. Notably, he is believed to have acted alone, and has claimed that and also claimed to have two other cells behind him.

He is not dead because he did not resist arrest because he is trying to spread a political message, not just random killing.

If you give him capital punishment, he'll become a martyr and won't have to suffer the hate and loathing of almost an entire country and more, it'd be like he got away with killing 80 young people. In the mind of a person willing to kill so many for their political and cultural beliefs, dying at the end of it is probably just like a ticket out.

Hey as for his religious fanaticism... yes he was, just as he was fanatic about anything else conservative.
In one word, he was a conservative fanatic.

And keep in mind he choose the crusader as icon. The religious warrior, fighting against the stranger.
