Random FPS Crash...
« on: July 23, 2011, 09:21:54 pm »

I have about 90 dwarves in a fortress that has been going for about 4 years. Everything is going great until my FPS plumets from 80-90 to 15. I didn't do anything at all. I breached the caverns a while back and there was not discernible FPS drop, but now everything is going so slow! Is there any fix to this? Will it go away?

You've got ambushers lurking around. Let a few soapmakers wander around outdoors for a bit.

Undesignate any meeting area, lock pets outside. Wait roughly 5 minutes, and expect "AN AMBUSH! CURSE THEM!" x 99.

If you've got a significant buildup of items, turning off temperature might help (constant checks if they're melting/etc).

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

That was...weird. It popped back up to 75fps a season or so later. Must have been something in the caves or something...
