Art History Comic
« on: July 22, 2011, 07:11:41 am »

For my Lone Art history class I am required to produce a book containing 100 pages of themed content.
Just something that has meaning. I've heard pretty strange things go into these books.
I foolishly decided to  try to make a 100 page comic that allegorically narrates the entirety of western art history
in a similar vein to Larry Gonicks Cartoon History of the Universe, which I'm a big fan of.
This would be  fine but I procrastinated and I have about ten days to finish it. and I'm at around 25 images.

Anyway, The first chapter is completed in all of it's nonsensical glory.
Anyone who actually knows art history can chime in and tell me what I got wrong because
I'm essentially only using one book to build the whole narrative.
All criticism is welcome, though art criticism might not be implemented during this particular project.
I'm not really bringing my A-game Artwise.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Next chapter is about Egypt. It's almost done.
Any advice?

Edit: I guess the images are way bigger than they were in preview. I hope that people have better screen resolutions than me.

Had to open them in separate tabs, they're HUGE.
Anyhow, well done. Funny, and believable, I liked it. Lacks muffins, though.

(and just posting to watch, of course)

Don't I know it. I did them at printing resolution because I have to physically produce a book.
Needless to say, when put back in 72 dpi they appear kind of massive.

I don't know, there might be muffins present in later chapters.

But Romanii where quite interesting. Greek perfected art, maybe, but Romanii perfected porn.

Greek part comes after the Egyptian part, I'm drawing it right now.
I'll try to make it pleasing to your sensibilities  ;)

I can't imagine uploading a dongfest anyway though.
There might be some blocky over-idealized man-butts but I can't see offending your sensibilities that much.

I don't know how much I'll be able to devote to the perfection of porn. Maybe I'll throw in an oblique reference.

Whelp, I'm sorry I didn't upload a lot of pages for review, but I can show you the finished product.
Which should be easier to read because it's a .pdf
It can be found

HERE

Feel free to take screenshots if you want to criticize me about things.
I'm almost certain that there's easter eggs and inside jokes hidden in there somewhere.

Sorry LosBoccacc, I didn't put in nearly enough roman pornography. (Or any, for that matter, linking to it would be bad news if I did)

EDIT: Oh, yeah, watch out for the pdf, even though it's the lowest quality one I could generate it's still upwards of twenty five megabytes.
