Totally random question about sizes.
« on: July 23, 2011, 08:01:39 am »

I have little knowledge on how to mod things so I don't really know how to test this, but if I were to take an animal (let's say cats) and increase its size by a ridiculously large number such as 10^1000 (10 with 1000 zeroes behind it), what would the combat reports be like?
Would an excessively large cat be able to take on a bronze colossus?
Would super massive size make creatures more likely to fly?

Was just wondering this while playing around in arena mode.

i think that flying is an ability wich come from the flyer tag isn't it? so i supose that size wouldn't interfere with flying

Oops, worded that wrong.
What I meant was,

Would super massive size make a creature more likely to send other creatures flying?

Dwarf Fortress: You have a team of hundreds working for four years to make a game where you save the world again. We have one guy for four years make a near-infinite world generator, write the physics, generate histories, form detailed descriptions of every human, elf, dwarf, and goblin generated, caverns, and huge randomly generated monsters made out of who knows what. You. guys. suck.

The sizes would bug out as no datatype can actually hold such a big number. (I know you can in theory create your own, but for most projects is more of a hassle than smart, and I doubt DF is any different.)

If however we imagine it was possible, then each hit would probably create this combatlog:

The abnormally big entity kicks you in the chest.
Severed parts fly of into the horizon, going into orbit with earth.
You have been struck down.

There's only one real way to find out you know...

Thing is, what do we test it against? Cats? Colossi? Dragons? Fluffy wamblers?

I'd say dragons instead of all that smaller stuff though.
