Bump for knowledge!

More specifically, I need to know how to keep one piticular race from starving to death in world gen, without using the No Eat No Drink tags. This race need to be playable in fortress mode.

Uhh as far as I know, the playable civ always survives worldgen. if you're playing dorfs(vanilla df), there's no way they won't survive.

Naw bro, they can pretty much die out. One settlement and nothing more.
The problem I have is with the Ponies in the My Little Fortress mod.  They build a few of hamlets and promptly starve to death.

Civs surviving world gen without [NO_EAT] really is a gamble a lot of the time, especially considering the buff that megabeasts have in df2010. As long as they have [PERMITTED_JOB:PLANTER] then there's not much else you can do for them.

Oh, I didn't notice that you meant playable in fort mode. You can safely remove NO_EAT and DRINK in the data/save/regionX/raw folder after history to get larger populations without breaking the game.

You can add [NO_EAT] for world gen and then remove it before playing. The civ shouldn't die of starvation AND you can have "normal" fortress mode mechanics.

So I just go into the save game raws and change it? Is it really that simple?

It should be. Since it's just changing a property of a creature instead of adding a completely new creature you should be able to change it mid-game in your save's raws with no issues (much like changing exotics to PET or plain adding PET to something previously untameable mid-game).
