The Exercise Accountibility Thread!
« on: July 18, 2011, 04:15:53 pm »

So, building off of an idea in this thread, let this be the official Exercise thread.

The objective:
Make a post every day that you complete your exercise routine. The amount of detail you share is up to you, but the idea is to get inspired by seeing your fellow B12'ers working toward their health.

And I'll kick it off!

2011.07.18: 75 pushups, 75 crunches. Sooore

75 pushups o_O

Man, I can do 120 situps a day easily, but I can barely do 40 pushups a day on my knees.  I'm hoping to upgrade to real ones after I've built up some more strength.

Anyway, I'm probably doing 100-200 men (sword exercises), and then later I have to get my other pushup/situp set done.

Well, first off, I did 3 sets of 25 pushups, 2 min apart. :)

When I was getting more into fitness, I tried the pushups on legs with the intention of graduating to full on pushups when I built my strength. Thing is, that never happened. I could do a lot of pushups on my knees, but whenever I'd try full pushups, I could barely do a couple.

What I ended up trying was full on pushups, as often as I could do them. Even if it was just 3 or 4 at a time throughout the day. That, for me, was the only way to start making progress on the push-up front.

Hmm... I found that the build-up worked okay for me before.  Gave me a chance to build up my weak pectorals while doing everything else.  I'll consider that, though.

You guys going for endurance? If you're going for strength or muscle building, after a certain amount of exercise reps it actually is not beneficial. I'll post some of the best workout/fitness advice I've ever learned when I get back home.

It's all about free weights.

I was once up to a long run of 4.5 miles, run-commuting home from work once a week.  Then I pulled my achilles tendon and couldn't run for months :(. When I stopped running, I also stopped lifting weights, even though I didn't have to.  So anyhoo, yesterday, this was all I could manage:

0.5 mile park run
10 pushups
5 chinups
20 bicycle crunches

Back in the day, I avoided doing weights/calisthenics after a run, but with such a low mileage, I went ahead and did them back to back.
