What's happening to my lye?
« on: September 03, 2006, 03:12:00 pm »

So I'm making lye at the ashery, but when I try to make potash out of it, I am told that I need a lye-bearing item. This is presumably because I have a serious barrel shortage and that's what the lye goes into... But if I'm making lye and have no barrels to put it in, what's happening to the lye? The ashery seems to hold all the buckets in the known world, but it doesn't say what, if anything, is in them. Is the lye in them? Will the already-made lye materialize in some barrels if/when I make enough of those?

I guess what I'm getting at is that I think it's a bug that I can make lye without having the barrels to put it into... and if that's okay, then the ashery should be able to make potash out of the mounds of lye that are apparently sitting around it, waiting for barrels.

Maybe the containers of lye are waiting to be hauled to a stockpile?

I'm pretty sure that lye has to sit a while before it can be used.

You can watch what's in the buckets, by using the T command and then using Enter to see the contents. I saw dwarves later pour the lye buckets into the barrels, so apparently that's how it works. Also, be wary that lye rots if left unused.
