A question about caverns
« on: July 10, 2011, 08:59:14 am »

Has anyone ever taken the time to seal the off-map entrances in one and flood it completely?

I would be very suprised if no one did, this is simply too dwarfy.

Thanks for the suggestion, but Number4 is correct: [...] it would be easier and more predictable to just be a racist.

Did somebody just rule 34 two veins of metal?

I was just wondering as I'm sort-of in the process of sealing a cavern.  Haven't decided if I'm gonna go with water or magma yet.

Magma, of course. It is dwarfier.
Unless you manage to breed sea serpents or other aquatic wildlife down there.

I don't mean to alarm you, but it appears that your Dwarves are all in fact elephants.

tried it once with magma but I started from a lower level so the tops of the caverns weren't flooded.

make sure you build your fort inside the cavern (in a completely sealed building, obviously) before flooding. Underground Rapture?

my second cavern layer is naturally flooded, does it count?  it's also covered over with a scum of forgotten beast extract as well, if it makes any difference.

Knifemurders is too big for that.  But I might make a bio-dome out of a few "lucky" volunteers.  Thanks for the idea.

"Hey Urist, the overseer says a bunch of us get a new place to live.  Nice stone walls and everything.  It's called "Rahp-toor".  Apparently it means something in the human tongue.  It's gonna be in that cavern the masons have been working on, so it must be some kinda reward! Running water and everything!
