Civilizations of creatures with [NO_GENDER] not possible?
« on: June 27, 2011, 08:01:54 pm »

I'm trying to create a civilization of creatures with [NO_GENDER] on them, but of course this makes them unable to reproduce so they all die out very fast.

Is there some way around this or do I have to give them genders?

Try long lifespans, [MAXAGE:1200:7000]
What would be the benefit from no_gender?

==OldGenesis mod== by Deon & TomiTapio. Five wood classes, four leather classes. Nine enemy civs. So much fine-tuning.

I dunno. A civ with the NO_GENDER tag reproducing would probrably be the benefit.

if there's lots of g's and z's, it's gobbo. If you don't really recognize it, it's human. if it's called Urist, it's dwarf.

!!SCIENCE!!

Try making them night creature hunter spouse converter things. Declare the main caste as genderless. Then add a male and female caste that are only converted spouses...?

"That's insane it'll never work."

!!SCIENCE!! doesn't always work ^-^ But if it did then that would be a way of adding members. Or babysnatching...

You could try making two castes with gender but give them POP_RATIO:0.
Some of the civ's in my mod with those seem to reproduce quite well despite having no males.
Or well, pretty sure they don't have any males. I should check Legends mode thoroughly at some point just to make sure.

I think there is actually some special code in place for this, I recall Toady mentioning it way, way, back when.  Try removing (or not adding) A MAX_AGE tag, I think he said that that lets them ignore all the gender related civ viability checks.

Of course this was before castes, so it may have changed since then, or other methods may have come up.
