LCS questions
« on: July 05, 2011, 11:29:45 pm »

1) I tried my hand at credit card fraud but even in the most high class apartment or anywhere else they get found out within the month, after that every place they go to gets heat just by them being there. I keep switching them until they catch up with me.... Doesn't seem to be worth doing. Anyone got any tips for money gathering?

2) Guard dogs seem to instantly notice that I am an enemy and immediately cry out an alarm. Am I missing something or do I have to just massive amounts of luck or firepower to get through certain areas?

3) What's a good way of getting juice that is legal? The wiki is horribly out of date.

1. Money can be gathered in many ways. In game time, the fastest is stealing (or more violently seizing) stuff from different locations and selling them. Theft in itself doesn't cause heat accumulation. Out of the money raising methods, the legal ones aren't exceptionally strong, but by making disguises and selling them in stores you can make a fat profit with a good tailor. If your character can outrun cops, try selling brownies. Prostitution is good also, but carries the risk of getting caught in a sting operation and lowering juice for characters with low street sense.

Credit card fraud does generate heat, if done long enough. If your fraudster is a good hacker, you might want to try Hacking. It may generate money even faster than CCFraud because you get rare files sometimes upon success.

And finally, lowering heat can be done by doing community service. It's not very fast but still works...

2. Guard dogs have a bonus for spotting you through disguises, to the extent that even skilled Liberals with the correct disguise are often spotted. I don't think the dog bonus applies against your stealth, so the sneaking approach may still be valid (I must check that from the source). But yeah, luck counts.

3. There's no longer any reliable and fast way to get legal juice. Most legal (or semilegal) actions have a juice cap, so they won't increase your juice past a certain amount. The most significant cap is 200, as I think that's as high as you can get through the 'A'ctivate screen. To get past that you need to kill, terrorize and release prisoners.

There are a few special occasions that may raise juice without doing anything criminal. If I recall correctly you get some (10?) juice by having an epic court defence.

Liberals will also gain juice when their underlings gain juice, I think. Not very much, but you can juice up your founder without having them commit any crimes.

I have a very epic tailor, but for some reason I see spamming disguises as an exploit.

Doesn't hacking also generate heat?

Why do my hackers gather heat after stopping their hacking and moving to a different location but my main squad of elite terrorists (closest word I could get with all the different charges they have on them) don't generate any?

Another question, what affects the conservative president's approval rating? I was doing some serious stuff and it went way down, but while continuing with it it went back up.

The disguise thing is an exploit, I think it'll be corrected in the next release. If your tailor is epic, you could make decent funds by selling shirts. If you built from trunk, it even has a minor political impact!

Hacking does generate heat, but I think it's slower than Credit Card Fraud, as hacking has a chance of not getting noticed (which CCFraud, I think, doesn't have). You could hack until you start seeing heat growth, sell the docs you get, do community service and resume hacking.

People with rap sheet generate heat, even if the criminal activity has stopped. What sort of charges does your terrorist squad have? Site actions lesser than murder don't cause heat at all.

If the president is Conservative, making society more Liberal may actually increase his/her approval rating temporarily. If you persuade Arch Conservative citizens to be only Conservative, they'll have a better opinion on the president. Also note that the polls always have a margin of error, at most 15%.

I'm not sure about the leader juice gain, must source dive.

What do you mean "from trunk"?

Well they have been to every location and done every illegal thing (or at least attempted to) except murder :P

If my guys do community service then start back up with the hacking, won't it just accumulate into a faster rate of heat gain?

Ah, sorry. trunk is the latest revision of the source code. It's pretty much the same as the latest release, except it's got a few less bugs and a few additional features (minor ones).

You don't get heat for site crimes lesser than murder. The same applies for juice as well after the 200 cap, sadly. If you want to get juice without direct combat, go push the button at the nuclear plant. 100 juice a push. You'll get charged for terrorism though.

To the third question, no. Heat and the actual crime flag are only connected at their source. You can, in theory, have an extremely long rap sheet of terrorism and treason without having any heat at all.

There is also sneaking in the corporate HQ to steal documents from the safe, sneaking in the COE Mansion/Castel to crack the safe for lots of money, and releasing prisonners, worth 50 juice each. You'll get charged for theft, theft, andn releasing prisonners, respectively.

File theft is worth juice past 200? I forgot that. Thanks.

Only from the safe. Safecracking is worth 50 juice, and the safe at the corporate HQ has only files in it. And even if the COE safe is empty, you still gain 50 juice for cracking it.

Yeah, that's basically what I meant, but it's always good to have a guardian angel clarify my obscure utterings. :)
