Every time I initiate trade with a merchant DF crashes on me. I am just beginning Adventure mode, have nothing to trade with (as far as I know) and anytime I choose Trade with a merchant or trader the program crashes. I can "Trade" with non-traders such as peasants and princesses, but whenever it's someone who matters I can't get even to the inventory menu.

I just dl'd the game this morning so I'm still figuring things out (have yet to pick anything up) so I don't know if it's because my inv's empty or just my game. Help?

Hmm, just tried and nada. I'm now attempting to see if I create another world (was hoping to avoid that) whether the bug will follow. I'm hoping it was just the world template and this may take care of it; will report findings.

ETA: Seems to be the world. I also picked something up before I went and saw the merchant though, which I hadn't done in the previous world...oh well. But yay, it works.

ETA2: Dammit. I take that back: I can get to the trading screen, but whenever I try to finalize a trade it crashes. W.T.F. (arg)

There was a crash from not having any items, and that's been fixed for next time.  I'm not sure about any other crashes.
