It's called iconoclasm: where someone believes that having pictures in a temple or whatever they call their holy building is heresy because they feel that you're worshiping the pictures and not the God.

Real life example:
This is just like the Protestant church: you will find little to no artwork, contrary to a Catholic cathedral where you'll see it everywhere. Muslims take this further.

Keep the blank temples. They're realistic.

Artwork is a random feature in the temples.  Many of them won't have it.  There isn't any furniture at all yet, and some of the temples should have furniture, so this makes too many of the temples plain.  I'll get to it at some point.
