Woes Of A Forum Gamer
« on: July 13, 2011, 09:12:52 pm »

I urge everyone to read the paragraph below!

It seems that recently more and more forum games die before turn 1.  I don't know if this happens to everyone, but I join a cool sounding game, and the person that started it never updates. Even if they do, it seems it's always a week or more. I enjoy more interactive fast paced games, and I can't find any at all these days. This isn't a complaint, it's an oppurtunity. I want to host a game that updates daily, but I'm terrible at thinking up ideas. So I would love some ideas, and I'm willing to do anything. And I promise it will update daily if not more. Thanks and I hope this doesn't offend anyone.

What do you mean by "interactive?" Pulling off a fast-paced, long-lived game is difficult as is, but we should figure out what exactly you're after first.

I was going to host a Balance of Power game here. A game where people take a real nation in the 60's or so and have to act semi realistic and try to get the most 'prestige' (success basicly).

It was always fast paced, as lots of diplomacy happened between nations.

Alas, I couldn't find any as my laptop got wiped recently. I used to do these all the time on other forums :(

I think it helps to have players who are invested as the GM.

Which is hard, since there's some people on the board that refuse or are unable to roleplay or even act like they want to play the game for fun, or try to power-play their way through everything.

Not judging that, but I think I would find players like that difficult to summon up the will to update for, personally. That's just bias on my part-if your planning on making a game, you'll have to accept whoever comes along.

For ideas...oh, thats the hard part.

Space Marine Squad games are always cool. If you can get the players...

I've never really hosted a game before so tell me what you want and I'll do it.

I know what you mean, a lot of games don't really get off the ground, or if they do, don't last very long. I don't know, whatever you feel like doing? Maybe just think of a setting and objective for the characters, give everyone a basic character sheet and then GM what goes on? *shrug*

Sounds good Yoink, I'll work on an idea. And post a new thread tommorow. This will allow more people to post their ideas here. Hope you join!

Sometimes I have a bad habit of abandoning games, but I've always tried to give them as good of a run as I can. And at least a good start.

Doesn't help when players hold things up though.

Both longevity and punctuality are very, very dependent on the GM actually wanting to do the game. It's all well and good to ask for ideas, but if we suggest something and you don't like it, it's not going to last very long no matter how well-intentioned you are.
