Harvesting question
« on: June 25, 2011, 01:08:37 pm »

Does anyone know:
  • The maximum harvest size (Stack of five comes to mind?)
  • How the harvest size varies with different grower skills?

Higher grower skill gives higher chance of bigger harvest, up to 5. I've heard of 6 in older version with high legendary and some good luck. I believe maximum stack with fertilizing is 10 to 12. Though I've seen 20 reported by hearsay, so I'm not sure if it's changed.

5 is probably the maximum without fertilizer. It's likely that the size of a stack of plants is determined the same way as quality is for other items; 6 random numbers are picked from various ranges, for each of the first 4 that is below the dwarf's skill 1 is added, then if the 5th number is 1 and the 6th number is below the dwarf's skill 1 is added (more detail is on the 40d Item Quality page, believed to still be mostly accurate).

I've seen stacks of up to 11 with fertilizer. I suspect that fertilizer doubles the normal harvest and adds 1.

The harvest is size is unrelated to the skill of the harvester. The dwarf who put the seed in the ground determines the stack size, not who takes it out.
