Insane merchants
« on: June 25, 2011, 01:07:16 am »

I'm trying to live off the land, but these merchants keep coming to my fort, seeing I have no trade despot, and going insane.  I'm not one to turn down free stuff, but an Elf's Yak went mad and killed two of my Dwarfs.  How do I make them stop?

Build a trade deport and ignore them coming in and out. That's what I does when I don't have any needs! Keeps them from going insane, that's for sure.

Build a depot in a room with a raisable drawbridge.  Lock them in to go mad.

Note: If you get more merchants than vanilla (some mod) you need a couple of Depots so they dont stack up
Also its only a hop skip and a jump from this to proper merchant processing where you dump something on them to speed the process up.

I wish I had something cool to say about this.  Because it's really cool.

Throwing objects on creatures would evoke madness? Does it work for dwarves too?

I think he meant throwing water into the depot chamber to drown them.

The only sure way to completely stop merchants from arriving (other than embarking in a world with no living friendly civilizations) is to completely wall off the edge of the map with raising drawbridges.  This also stops invasions, immigrants, and wild animals from entering the map.

I'm trying to prevent them from going insane and leaving gobs of FPS killing junk behind.

Build a trade deport and ignore it. That's all you can really do, short pouring magma everywhere.
